Alto was introduced in 1979 by Suzuki and Maruti Alto is the Indian version, currently the fifth generation. This model was introduced in India in 2000 and is the best-selling hatchback in the country. One million Maruti Altos units were produced in 2008 since its launch. Alto is a replication for reliability, durability with an assurance to give good fuel efficiency coupled with affordable and attractive price tag. It is one of the most loved car models by the Indians and is currently available in eight variants. Some of the variants are exported to countries that include Chile, Bangladesh and Sri Lanka. Maruti Alto comes with two types of engines one is petrol and the other is CNG, which was introduced recently and comes only with manual transmission option. Maruti Alto prices range between 2.5 lacs and 3.5 lacs depending upon the car model. Maruti Swift, Ritz, SX4 are few of the models from the Maruti Suzuki stable providing value for money.

Maruti Alto Engine and Specifications

Maruti Alto variants have 796 cc petrol engines with manual transmission. The company recently launched CNG versions and K10 engine models, of which K10 Alto model comes with the famous 1.0L, 998 cc, 3-cylinder K10 petrol engines that has the capacity to deliver the mileage of 20.2 kmpl. This engine delivers maximum power of 68 PS at the rate of 6200 rpm, with maximum torque of 68 Suzuki ATVs Nm at the rate of 3500 rpm accompanied with an advanced five speed cable gearbox.

The older version also exists in the market with the 796 cc petrol engine that has the capacity to produce the maximum power of 47 PS at the rate of 6200 rpm and the maximum torque of 62 Nm at the rate of 3000 rpm with five speed manual gearbox.

The CNG variant has the option to switch over between CNG and petrol mode, with the capacity to deliver maximum power of 39.5 PS at the rate of 6200 rpm and maximum torque of 54 Nm at the rate of 3000 rpm. Though it is not better than petrol Maruti Alto version, it gives best mileage and its running cost is also very less.

The older car measures 3495 mm in length, 1475 mm in width and 1480 in height, with a 2360 mm wheelbase and 160 mm ground clearance. The newer version is 125 mm longer than the older version.

Maruti Alto Performance

The latest Maruti Alto K10 engine conforms with BS-IV emission norms. The output of this latest model is much better than its old version and it also has innovative five speed cable gearbox that assures to deliver smooth and gentle performance. The powertrain can reach 100 kmph in just 13.3 secs. The older version is also capable of delivering mind-blowing performance as it has MPFI supply system that ensures a clear flow of fuel. The older version is also smooth to handle and delivers gentle drive without any vibrations.

New Maruti Alto CNG version has the innovative i-GPI bio-fuel technology, which is makes the car very fuel efficient.

Maruti Alto Exterior, Interior and Safety

Maruti Alto has stylish and elegant exterior which is very much worth its cost. It has eye catching curvy body and the front grille bears the chrome plated Maruti logo. The front bumper, the headlights subtle with each other that gives an appealing and stunning look. The K-series Alto has a body colored bumper and rear view mirrors, with black color door handles, trendy wheel covers and stylish tail gate.

Maruti Alto interiors are dynamic providing enough space for a small hatchback car. The fabric upholstery, molded carpet and molded door trims makes the ambience good. The interiors are equipped with sun-visor, luggage parcel tray, head rests, cabin lamps, power steering, dual tone interiors, accessory socket, vanity mirror, cup holder and ash tray.

As for safety features the car is equipped with collapsible steering feature, Intelligent Computerized Anti Theft System (iCATS), clear lens headlamps and tail lamps, side impact beams, head restrains, seat belts, high mount stop lamps, tubeless tyres , key off reminder, central locking, child locks, fog lamps and many other features.
