Why is my 600 Grizzly (4 Wheeled ATV) smoking so bad?
I checked, and the engine is getting plenty of oil. I start it up and the oil goes though the engine, and I saw the reason. I just want to know why it was/is leaking. I’ve heard things all the way from a bad head gasket, to just over flow. When cooled down and leveled, the oil is about half full. When running it’s completely empty. I checked for 2 days, no oil leaks. But there is oil or some equivalent on the little engine part right where the two exhaust pipes come out. The reason for smoke is that there’s some oil (or equivalent) on one of the pipes. I don’t think there’s a loss of power but the back right tire is always deflating itself and there’s no audible hissing.Someone had used it for 4+ hours for Used ATV Parts Quebec mowing and got the fan jammed. I used it the next day, and ran out of gas on a hill. That was the first time I saw smoke. Now I can’t run it for more than 5 minutes without it smoking (from the oil on the pipe)Should I try to do anything myself? Or should this be looked at by a real pro?I’ve got the fan un-jammed (just a piece of mud in it’s way) and re-did the winch. The thing’s a 99 and we got it off of the show-floor. (pretty darn old, eh?)The smoke is regular smoke… not blue or black. It also smells like burning plastic, not sure if that has any importance. I just looked at the fan and it looks way too loose to do anything. What should I do? Just get a replacement? About the oil: How would I go about removing it from the pipe since it’s already boiled on there? Thanks so much for the answers. And to my mistake, it’s a 98… not well maintained but it still goes pretty fast for a 595cc engine
Not too sure of any power loss, but I’m not that heavy on stuff like that (pun not intended) {for the record I only weigh 220lbs}Another addition:The place where the oil is gathering/blotching up is above where the exhaust exits from the front of the engine. It’s blackish, not too sure about viscosity of it yet
yet ANOTHER addition:The first time it actually smoked was the one time I ran it out of gas and I was on a hill. That was the very first time I noticed it. But when I went to my friends house it wasn’t smoking. I would have noticed it.Is it possible for the valve cover open up and spill some oil accidentally?
