im looking to put a 340 or 440 motor on my old trailboss, but will the additional power ruin the tranny? a trailbosss/trailblazer/etc… polaris atv motors for the most part (excluding the predator ATV Outlaw Predator and outlaw), are just like snowmobile motors, no gears, no trans inside of the motor whatsoever, setup just like a briggs & stratton 8 hp motor with a clutch that drives a belt. and 340/440’s are twin cylinders this i know because ive owned both. the process of putting such a motor on this quad would be just to remove the old motor, fab up motor mounts and keep the belt in line-then hook up electrical/fuel line/etc. my question is, can the tranny take that kind of abuse or will it give up the battle?

This electric motor is powered by electricity, just like a drill motor. Current changes on opposing poles spin a magnet that powers the motor and turns the winch. Since a winch is so heavy-duty, the electric motor on a winch must be robust with a solid electrical system that can handle a lot of charge. The winch motor also needs to adjust to handle heavier loads.
At the heart of an electric motor is the electromagnet. An electromagnet is based on the idea that when electricity flows through a coiled wire, a magnetic field forms. When a piece of metal is inserted through the center of the coil, the magnet field becomes even stronger. The coiled wire and the piece of metal together are called an electromagnet. Like all magnets, an electromagnet has a north pole and a south pole.
Some winches have gears that allow them to pull ATV Outlaw Predator up very heavy loads. These gears can be very simple like bike gears. One small gear operated by an electric motor can turn a much larger gear, therefore increasing the amount that can actually be pulled. Advanced winches can also have what are called planetary gear trains or elliptical gears. As you might guess, these work like planets orbiting the sun. One small gear rotates around a larger gear, making it easier to pull up large objects. Winches can have any type of gear assembly, but most are elliptical or ordinary gear trains with successively smaller gears. Power SuppliesThere are two types of current used to power an electric motor: alternating current (AC) and direct current (DC) current. By definition, the direction of the current in AC alternates, which means that the magnetic field in an an electromagnet powered by AC will continually flip. This will cause the north and south poles on the electromagnet to switch places multiple times every second, which will cause the electromagnet to spin indefinitely.
Electric winch operate on a power supply like any other electrical machine. They can be powered by either AC or DC systems. Many ATV winches are DC powered and run right off an ATV battery. Other truck and trailer winches run on simple 12-volt DC power. These can be rigged to run off the truck’s electrical system while the truck is on and the alternator running. This can help the winch be more efficient since it will receive more power than running from a dry battery. A winch will not completely drain the battery system if operated while the truck is off. Winches do not use a large amount of electricity; mainly their gear system is doing all of the work.
